River's Inlet Double Header

Saturday, August 18, 2001 was the last day of the fishing trip at Big Spring Resort, Rivers Inlet, B.C. King Salmon Bob and Halibut Tom were prepared to go home with less than a respectable amount of fish—8-14 pounds at most. With less than three hours remaining, Bob and Tom got their first double-header. Little did they know that the two fish that took to Grandpa Tom's bait were two King Salmon totaling over 100 pounds!

Together the two fish pulled the 15-foot vessel two miles to sea. As the two fish dove deep, they took nearly 600 feet of line. Bob and Tom crawled over one another several times to prevent the lines from tangling. The first fish arrived in the boat in a little under one hour, and the second fish followed in about an hour and a half.

The feisty 42-pound King Salmon matched the largest fish caught in the entire group at Big Spring Resort, and the 60-pound King Salmon was the largest fish caught for the summer of 2001 at Big Spring Resort. While King Salmon Bob coached and Halibut Tom reeled, the Hail Mary double-header became a reality.

Now that's a fishing story…
